An Autumn Adventure
OCTOBER 22nd - 26th, SIERRA NEVADA, Spain
HOYA & PRADOLLANO

Pradollano is a village sitting between 2,100m and 2,500m altitude and is the main support area for the Sierra Nevada Ski resort, in the province of Granada, southwestern Spain. The ski area is located on the northwestern slopes of Veleta, the third highest peak in Peninsular Spain, second highest peak of Sierra Nevada and the most southerly ski resort in Europe as well as the highest in Spain! Due to its high elevation, the skiing season can last from late November until early May, so, instead of fluffy white snow…. Expect a gorgeously stunning autumn landscape and an absolutely epic sunset...while the African coast can be seen across the Mediterranean sea on a clear day, with a 360 degrees view spanning to infinity!!

Although Pradollano is home to a large number of restaurants, shops, bars and nightlife, it is a bit more quiet off season, giving it an extra special feel of exclusivity and closer contact with the beautiful surrounding natural space. The resort is located wholly above the tree line and summer activities include walking, cycling, horse-riding, visiting its delightful Botanical Gardens as well as mountain climbing in the area. There are also two important astronomy observatories located on the pistes (one of the highest in Europe!) and one of our personally favourite local night activities are guided star-gazing tours with various types of telescopes.

Pradollano is a stark contrast to Guejar sierra and enables you to truly experience being at altitude. The higher up above the treeline you go, the more rugged the landscape becomes with sensational views, vast open landscapes and enormous rocky peaks.

Make sure to bring clothes for all weather conditions as even in October the sun is fierce when it is out due to the altitude and less dense atmosphere. However, at night, temperatures can drop very quicky to below 0 degrees. If you decide to tackle one of the enormous mountains, make sure you are prepared with appropriate footwear, clothing, plenty of water, maps and sun cream!

Getting around

Our daytime activities and events will be located either in or starting at Hoya de la Mora. Night time music venues will be located in the Zona Media. The village is small, however, quite steep so, although it is safe to walk around (there are pedestrian paths in all roads as well as a few shortcuts to avoid some zig-zagging), it might not be your “thing”! You can move around by walking, cycling, driving (your vehicle or tagging along with other members) or grabbing a local taxi. We will have more info on bike rental and dedicated taxi services closer to the date! The whole area boasts stunning views so we recommend privileging forms of transport that allow you to enjoy it such as walking and cycling. Also, please, avoid driving motor vehicles unless they are used to full or near full passenger capacity to reduce our footprint.

Pharmacy

There is a pharmacy at bottom of the Pradollano village (Zona Baja). It is open from 10:00 to 14:30 and 16:30 to 19:00 on Friday, from 10:00 to 14:30 on Saturday and it is closed on Sunday.

Supermarket

There  is one supermarket open during this time of the year, located in the lower area (Zona Baja) of the village. Called Coviran, it is opened from 10:00 to 20:30 everyday.

Bus Times

There is a bus connecting Granada city centre to Pradollano and Hoya de la Mora once a day during this time of the year - the route 1053 of Tocina. The trip costs around €5 and takes about 1h. The bus leaves from Granada city centre at 09:00 every day and from Hoya de la Mora at 17:00 every day, stopping in Pradollano at 17:10.

You can check more information here and timetables in Sierra Nevada – Autocares Tocina.

Taxis

If you need a taxi you can contact the following taxi drivers from the station. There is a fixed stop in Pradollano square, next to Meliá hotels, but you will need to call a taxi during this time of the year.
