ACCOMMODATION

This year’s experience is going to take the shape of a “tour” through three locations in Picos de Europa. This means you will need to make separate accommodation bookings for each one of these three locations. Below are the dates and places where we will be based and our advised accommodation options based on location.

Please, be aware that some of these locations may only have a couple of choices available which, though it may seem inconvenient, is part of being somewhere this special and “off the beaten track”! Also, note that we are not a party or beneficiary of any bookings you may make and we have not had a chance to stay in all of these, so our recommendations are based on their location and our first impressions of visiting the place and speaking to the owners! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out!

9th and 10th of June: Fuente Dé, Espinama, Pido

In the first two days of our event, we will have daytime activities based in the Fuente Dé, where there are two Hotel options and one campsite currently available, and Espinama. There are also a few other choices about 3kms down the road, in the tiny villages of Espinama and Pido. Hotels in Fuente Dé boast jaw-dropping views and each has its own restaurant and bar whereas Espinama (a few meters down from Pido) has a small supermarket, a couple of bars and restaurants and a few more accommodation options at cheaper prices.

You can either book directly with hotel/accommodation owners or use booking.com or airbnb, however, be aware that, usually, not all rooms available are allocated to 3rd parties (booking.com, airbnb), so you may get different availability and pricing if you contact establishments directly. Please, read below the accommodation type description as these are quite different from other international ratings.

Spanish Accommodation Types:

Hotel: Commercial, enterprise owned, “larger-scale Hotel"

Hostal: Small, privately owned hotel (usually family run)

Posada: Small, privately owned hotel (usually family run)

Albergue: Budget accommodation for travellers of various kinds, often offers beds in shared dorms as well as private rooms, usually offers shared communal facilities (sitting areas, kitchen or ½ and full board options)

Vivienda/Casa/Casa Rural: Self catering house/chalet

Apartmentos: Self catering apartments

11th and 12th of June: Puertos de Áliva, Espinama

For the 3rd and 4th night, we are basing our program around one of the most wonderful and remote hotels you will ever find! Hotel Áliva is located high up the mountain, at over 1,800m altitude, emerging in the middle of remote mountain trails and only accessible by 4x4 routes** or walking.

Hotel Áliva was originally inaugurated in 1930 as a mountain refuge but has since been bought out and run by Cantur, the same commercial enterprise that runs the Teleférico de Fuente Dé. However, due to its locations and characteristics, it still keeps the same “refuge” feel and characteristics, having only been connected to the grid in 2021!

In Hotel Áliva the rooms are simple, almost albergue style, but comfortable and each has its own private bathroom. There are the options for double/twin, triple and quadruple rooms as well as a 6 bed dorms, all ensuite. Please note that due to the capacity of the hotel, we can´t have single use of double rooms as that will reduce dramatically the amount of us who will be able to stay up there and force more of our group to stay down in Espinama at night (this is also possible and can be arranged). We have pre-reserved all availability in Hotel Áliva to ensure any rooms available go to our members, so if you would like to stay there for the 3rd and 4th night, email us asking for availability and requesting to book. Please note that we are not intermediaries or recipients to this booking and the booking agreement is between you and the hotel - we are purely ensuring that all rooms available are used by our members and not to other groups or parties. If you can't find a suitable room in Áliva or would prefer to avoid moving, you can also stay in Espinama for the 3rd and 4th nights and commute either in your transport or transport organised by ourselves.

**It is possible to reach Hotel Áliva without a 4x4 car, provided it has decent ground clearance, coming from Espinama. However, the 4x4 track between Hotel Áliva and Sotres is only recommended to appropriate all terrain vehicles.
